Adventurers Take a "Leap of Faith" at Camp Alamisco Family Fun Weekend By Diego Coello
Something special happened at Camp Alamisco the last weekend of April.
From April 24 to 26, nearly 400 Adventurers and their families packed up and made the trip to Camp Alamisco for the annual Family Fun Weekend, and by most accounts, it didn't disappoint. Nineteen clubs came together from across Alabama, Mississippi, and the Florida panhandle, all under the banner of this year's theme: "Leap of Faith."
The weekend was built around a simple but powerful idea that faith isn't just for grown-ups. Kids can know God, trust Him, and choose Him early. That message found its voice in special guest Jene Boomstra, the creator and writer behind Discovery Mountain, the beloved Adventist audio drama. Boomstra wove that thread through her messages all weekend, reminding children that the foundation they build now matters more than they know.
Between the worship programs, there was plenty of the good stuff: games, outdoor adventures, and the kind of easy fellowship that happens when families share meals and laughter in a beautiful place. Camp Alamisco has a way of doing that. The setting does half the work.
But the moment people will probably talk about the longest came Saturday evening. Boomstra gave an altar call, and the kids came forward. A lot of them. It was quiet and sincere, children stepping up to commit their hearts to Jesus in their own way, on their own terms. The kind of moment leaders work all year hoping for.
None of it would have happened without the army of volunteers, parents, and club leaders who showed up ready to serve. They built the environment; the kids filled it with life.
When families packed up on Sunday and headed home, they carried more than just tired kids and muddy shoes. They left with something harder to put down: a little more faith, a little more joy, and the memory of a weekend where their children chose, freely and genuinely, to take a leap.
