Seeds of Joy: Marianna Seventh-day Adventist Church Launches Its First Community Plant Giveaway
Something beautiful took root in Marianna this spring—quite literally. The Marianna Seventh-day Adventist Church hosted its first-ever Community Plant Giveaway, and what began as a simple idea to bless neighbors with free plants blossomed into a full day of connection and ministry.
From the moment the first families arrived, the atmosphere was filled with joy and gratitude. Rows of flowers, vegetables, herbs, and succulents lined the church grounds, inviting guests to explore, ask questions, and receive prayer and fellowship. Volunteers greeted visitors with energy and warm smiles, offered water on a very hot day, and provided literature and encouraged them to join various classes such as gardening and health. For many, it was their first time stepping onto the church property, and the experience opened doors for meaningful conversations.
Church members had a goal to prepare enough plants for about 100 people- each with 6 plants; everyone felt confident it would be enough. But as the event began, cars kept pulling in and the line grew longer. Soon it became clear that far more than 100 people were coming, yet the plants never ran out but kept multiplying.
Over 160 people were served, and more than 970 plants were given away—far beyond what the church had prepared for originally. Volunteers kept looking at the tables, surprised that as people continued choosing plants, there always seemed to be more. It felt like watching the biblical story of the loaves and fishes unfold in real time. God multiplied what the church had, and every person who came left with not just their hands full of plants and joy in their hearts.
The atmosphere was filled with gratitude and a sense that God was doing something special. Volunteers described the day as a spiritual recharge, a reminder that when we step out in faith, God meets us there. This plant giveaway marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Marianna Seventh-day Adventist Church. Plans are already underway for future giveaways and expanded outreach programs that combine practical support with spiritual encouragement and meet the needs of our community.
Just as every plant given away has the potential to grow, so do the seeds of faith and friendship planted that day. The Marianna Seventh-day Adventist Church believes God will continue to water those seeds—and something beautiful will keep growing. The goal is simple: to be a visible, active, and caring presence in our neighborhood.
